About L-Carnitine 600mg 20ml

L-Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound derived from lysine and methionine. It is not a peptide. Its established biological role is as the obligatory carrier that transports long-chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane so they can undergo beta-oxidation.

Without carnitine, long-chain fatty acids cannot reach the mitochondrial matrix where fat oxidation occurs — which is why it appears in nearly every discussion of fatty-acid energy metabolism.

Supplied as a ready-to-use solution. For laboratory research use only. Not for human consumption.

Research background

The carnitine shuttle

Carnitine palmitoyltransferase I attaches fatty acyl groups to carnitine on the outer mitochondrial membrane; a translocase moves the complex across; CPT II releases the fatty acid inside. This shuttle is the rate-limiting step of long-chain fatty-acid oxidation.

Exercise and recovery models

A large applied literature examines carnitine supplementation in exercise contexts, with endpoints including markers of muscle damage and recovery following exertion.

Muscle bioenergetics

Studies have examined whether raising muscle carnitine content alters substrate selection between fat and carbohydrate, and under what conditions the shuttle is actually rate-limiting.

Acyl-carnitine profiling

Carnitine conjugates are widely used as metabolic biomarkers; acyl-carnitine profiling is a standard analytical technique for characterising fatty-acid oxidation disorders.

Carnitine has a substantial human research literature, including systematic reviews. Material supplied here is a research reagent, not an approved medicine.

Reconstitution

  1. Equilibrate firstAllow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Introducing solvent into a cold vial promotes condensation, which affects both concentration accuracy and stability.
  2. Select the diluentBacteriostatic water — sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol — is standard where the solution will be held for more than a few days. Plain sterile water is appropriate only for single-session use with no storage.
  3. Add slowly, down the wallDirect the solvent against the inner wall of the vial rather than onto the powder. A stream striking the lyophilized cake causes localized shear that can denature peptide chains.
  4. Do not shakeSwirl gently, or simply let the vial stand. Agitation introduces air and mechanical stress, and both degrade peptides. Full dissolution usually takes a minute or two.
  5. Inspect before useA correctly reconstituted solution is clear and colourless. Cloudiness, visible particulate or discolouration indicates a problem with the material or the diluent.

Concentration is set by the volume of diluent added. For a 200mg vial, 1mL of bacteriostatic water yields 200mg/mL. Calculate the working concentration your protocol requires rather than following a generic figure.

Storage and stability

StateTemperaturePractical shelf life
Lyophilized, sealed−20 °C24+ months
Lyophilized, sealed2–8 °C~12 months
Lyophilized, sealedRoom temperatureWeeks — transit only
Reconstituted, bacteriostatic water2–8 °C~3–4 weeks
Reconstituted, sterile water2–8 °CSame session

Lyophilized peptide is stable enough to survive shipping at ambient temperature, which is why cold-chain courier service is not required for transit. Long-term storage is a different matter — material intended to be held for months belongs in a freezer.

Protect from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Each cycle causes measurable degradation, so dividing a reconstituted stock into single-use aliquots before freezing is preferable to thawing and refreezing one vial repeatedly.

Purity and verification

Every lot is tested by an independent laboratory using two orthogonal methods. HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) establishes purity as a percentage of total peptide content, separating the target compound from truncated sequences and synthesis by-products. LC-MS (liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry) confirms molecular identity by mass.

Both matter. Purity alone is insufficient — a 99% pure sample of the wrong compound is still the wrong compound. Together the two tests establish identity and quality, which is why L-Carnitine is released only after both pass.

The certificate of analysis references the lot number printed on your vial label. Request the COA for your lot at [email protected].

Frequently asked questions

Is L-Carnitine a peptide?
No. It is a quaternary ammonium compound synthesised from the amino acids lysine and methionine, but it is not itself a peptide. It is catalogued alongside research peptides because it appears in overlapping metabolic research.
Does L-Carnitine need reconstitution?
No — it is supplied as a ready-to-use solution rather than lyophilized powder, so no bacteriostatic water is required. Store refrigerated once opened.
What is the difference between L-Carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine?
Acetyl-L-carnitine carries an acetyl group and crosses the blood-brain barrier more readily, so it appears more often in neurological research. Plain L-carnitine is the form central to the mitochondrial fatty-acid shuttle.
Does this need refrigerated shipping?
No. Lyophilized peptide is stable at ambient temperature for the duration of transit, which is why cold-chain shipping is unnecessary. Refrigerate or freeze on arrival for longer-term storage.
Is a certificate of analysis available?
Yes, per lot. The COA corresponds to the lot number printed on your vial. Email [email protected] with that lot number and we will send it.
Is L-Carnitine approved for human use?
No. L-Carnitine has not been approved for human use in this form and is supplied for laboratory research use only. It is not for human consumption.
